Hunter Green + Burnt Sienna + Cream

Hi, friends! I'm back again today with another style post, featuring an outfit from my January Capsule. Today's hunter green and burnt sienna look is one of my absolute favorites of the month!

It's no secret I love hunter green in the fall and winter. Case in point: this look, this look, this look, this look, and today's look! And apparently I really love pairing it with warmer brown tones too because each of the looks above incorporates some aspect of that as well.

What can I say? The pairing is so lovely together!

My daily winter looks tend to follow a straight forward formula–long sleeve top or sweater, high rise pants or jeans, a slouchier cardigan over top, and boots (snow boots when it's snowing and nicer leather ankle boots when it's not). And while this may seem like an unexciting (almost too simplistic) outfit equation, it actually has led me to some of my favorite looks to date!

Here's why it works…rather than worrying about which pieces go with which pieces each morning, I instead get to trust the process of my capsule wardrobe and pour my creative energy into experimenting with the color combinations because nearly all the pieces in my capsule go together. In fact, that's one of my favorite aspects of trying out the capsule wardrobe this past month–finding new favorites combos among older pieces (a product of limiting my overall choices).

The hunter green turtleneck here is one you've seen several times on the blog–paired with a skirt and leather jacket here and paired with a fur vest and jeans here. The tissue turtleneck at J.Crew has been a wardrobe staple of mine for years and I have it in soooo many different colors.

And these burnt sienna pants, you may remember them from this post earlier in the month paired with a cream cashmere sweater. The color is so rich and beautiful and yummy this time of year. It reminds me of nutmeg or clove haha.

And since the tissue turtlenecks are bit on the thinner side, I layered on a creamy fuzzy cardigan for warmth and a welcome variety in texture.

To tie in the cream of the cardigan, I added on the Camille necklace in faceted bone from Natalie Borton. I love that her jewelry is simple yet makes a statement, and that her color schemes can be paired with just about anything. It means I can be as colorful as I want with my clothes and her pieces still pair perfectly with whatever I choose!

As for shoes, I went for a black leather ankle boot that adds the perfect amount of contrast to the look while keeping things classic and polished.

What about you? Do you have a go-to outfit formula or favorite color combination you gravitate towards?
